Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a powerful approach to healing and self-discovery that views individuals as complex systems of interconnected parts. Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS posits that within each person exists a multiplicity of inner voices or “parts,” each with its own unique perspective, emotions, and motivations. These parts often develop in response to past experiences and aim to protect us from harm. In IFS therapy, clients learn to identify and understand these parts, cultivating a compassionate relationship with their parts while also accessing their own core, or “Self,” which is characterized by the following qualities: curiosity, calmness, clarity, creativity, compassion, confidence, and courage (these are known as the 8 C’s of self).
By fostering harmony and balance among these internal parts, clients can achieve profound healing and integration, leading to greater authenticity, resilience, and overall well-being.
In IFS therapy, Peggy serves as a guide, facilitating a safe and nurturing environment for clients to explore and understand their inner landscape. Through various techniques such as visualization, dialogue, and mindfulness practices, clients gradually develop the skills to navigate their own internal world with greater ease and compassion. As clients deepen their understanding of their inner dynamics and strengthen their connection to their core Self, they often experience profound shifts in their relationships, behaviors, and sense of self. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply seeking personal growth, IFS therapy offers a transformative healing journey toward wholeness and self-discovery, empowering you to lead a more fulfilling and authentic life.
Peggy has been studying and practicing IFS therapy since learning about it in 2022. As soon as she read Richard schwartz’ book, No Bad Parts, she knew that extending her knowledge and experience with IFS was the perfect next step for her own personal growth, and her therapy practice. Since then, Peggy has attended masterclasses, watched extensive trainings and demonstrations in IFS, and most recently graduated from Derek Scott’s “Stepping Stone” intensive IFS course – a 16 week, 48 hour program that allows Peggy the title of IFS informed therapist. Peggy continues to participate in ongoing consultation and practice of IFS, and has seen significant shifts in her clients who are choosing to try it.
